How great is this??!! Trying to inspire 1 Million people to volunteer in their communities! Talk about motivation:) Our non-profits are facing dire times right now with many of them struggling to provide basic services and outreach to populations in need of services and charity more than ever before! This is all due to our fallen economy. The non-profit organization I personally work with IS one of those facing the possibility of closing doors after severe cutbacks in funding sources ($500,000 less to be exact), slashes to all important clinical and therapeutic services and key positions being stretched too thin or eliminated completely. The charity President was in tears at our last Executive Board Meeting - it was heartbreaking. It is such a scary landscape for non profits today.
Going back to Disney's exciting campaign though - I am glad to see a gigantic corporation like Disney just "get it". It's a win-win situation for Disney and the non profit sector. Again with many non profits having to stretch the job functions and scarce resources of their skeleton crews, volunteers are needed now!!!
Please, find a way to give back to your community by giving time, a donation, offering to do a particular service that you may specialize in. Anything would be appreciated beyond belief. One last tidbit, I went running the trails again during my lunch break. I actually did the loop twice!!! And when I wound down I actually had my breath and was not gasping air like a fish out of water. Making some baby steps!!!! Stay tuned . . .
